Marley-branded Marijuana: Ironies and the Ultimate Sell-Out

In the ultimate sellout, Marely's is soul to be exploited for profit by pot profiteers driving the next addiction-based mega industry.

In the ultimate sellout, Marley’s soul to be exploited for profit by pot moguls pushing for the next commercialized, addiction-based mega industry.

With all due respect to his family, Bob Marley did not appear to die a particularly unworried or happy death when he passed at age 36 from cancer back in 1981. And, in the perhaps the ultimate of ironies, the next great addiction-driven industry will exploit his soul for silver and gold.

Given what we now know know about ever more potent forms of 21st Century marijuana and the harms associated with it, capitalizing on Marley’s drug of choice seems worlds away from any sense of public good for the People.

When drugs are the only comfort a people have to turn to, they simply have too few options for a better life. The ironies are endless here.

The People deserve so much better than open drug markets. The marijuana moguls are the height of predatory market practices — exploiting anyone in order to release their drug on the masses.

This is most certainly not power to the people. It’s power to the Pied Pipers of Pot. And the marijuana moguls hope to be laughing all the way to the bank.

The wolves are indeed at the door. Are we going to let them in?

News coming out of Privateer Holdings: http://www.privateerholdings.com/portfolio/ makes it abundantly clear that greater steps must be immediately taken to limit the advance of BIG MARIJUANA. Today Privateer Holdings introduction to the world of Marley Natural. See story below.

Privateer Holdings is Tilray(B.C. Canada)/Leafly and now Marley Natural. (Principals Brendan Kennedy, Michael Blue and Christian Groh.)

“This is what the end of prohibition looks like,” said Brendan Kennedy , CEO of Privateer Holdings, which owns Marley Natural. “Bob Marley started to push for legalization more than 50 years ago. We’re going to help him finish it. … We’re committed to social change, environmental sustainability and building a professional, responsible and legal cannabis industry.”

As evidence of the growing commercialization of pot we now have Bob Marley brand marijuana. Make sure you see the videos on the website (link below).

The principals of the company openly stated their plans to become the Starbucks or Amazon of pot. Their website www.tilray.ca is very telling; product names mirroring illicit street drugs, slick packaging, branding and claims that their products could create desirous effects such as “happiness” or “arousal”. This is all available to see on this “licensees” website.

Where are the stop measures on the rapidly advancing marijuana industry? In the USA and Canada there must be immediate enforcement of regulations to stop the advertising and promotion of marijuana regardless of end purpose.

How can we allow another BIG TOBACCO to be launched right before our very eyes ? If we can not regulate this industry now how can anyone make the case that with legalization we will be able to get this heavily funded industry under control.

We must stop the mass commercialization of marijuana, enforce marijuana’s illegal status in this country, and stop the use of the internet to market and promote medical marijuana and recreational products. We need to address this with a sense of urgency.

Bob Marley to Be the Face of First-Ever Global Marijuana Brand

The Hollywood Reporter, 5:57 AM PST 11/18/2014 by Ashley Lee

“Herb is for the healing of the nation; herb is for the meditation; herb is for the higher vibrations”

Bob Marley will be the face of the first global brand of marijuana.

The late musician will front Marley Natural , “a premium cannabis brand rooted in the life and legacy” of the singer, the Marley family and a Seattle-based private equity firm announced on Today on Tuesday morning.

The New York City-based company will offer pot-infused creams, accessories and strains of “heirloom Jamaican cannabis,” all cleanly packaged by Heckler Associates, the agency that branded New Balance and Starbucks Coffee. Executives stated that the cannabis itself will be sold as “loose packed” buds, oils or concentrate.

While the family has recently licensed a variety of lifestyle products in reference to the musician’s affinity for marijuana, this marks their first move into the selling of the actual herb.

“It just seems natural that Daddy should be part of this conversation. … As Daddy would say, ‘Make way for the positive day.'” said daughter Cedella Marley. Son Rohan Marley added, “Herb is for the healing of the nation; herb is for the meditation; herb is for the higher vibrations.”
